Community order for man who shouted racist abuse
A MAN who launched a tirade of racist abuse at his neighbour has escaped jail.
Stuart Hubbard, 39, had got into a row over parking outside his home when he shouted abuse at Sharon May about her Asian boyfriend.
Hubbard, an unemployed painter and decorator, had got into a row with Mrs May’s ex-husband on the evening of 17 April 2010 in Bayford Close, Hemel Hempstead.
Prosecutor Robert Colover said Hubbard remonstrated with Mr May as to why he was taking up two parking spaces. He then turned and made remarks to Mrs May.
Hubbard was convicted at an earlier hearing of causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm and distress to his next door neighbour.
At St Albans Crown Court on Monday Recorder Richard Crabtree passed a 12 month Community Order, including 100 hours of unpaid work. Hubbard is banned from directly or indirectly contacting Mrs May and must carry out 25 days’ Education, Training and Employment. In addition he must also pay £250 costs.
