Club nights for disabled teens
A clubbing event for teens transformed a community centre into a UV-lit club.
The UV Club Nights programme is, according to organisers, the first of its kind in Hertfordshire and takes place across the county.
Teenagers from all walks of life got together when the party came to Hemel Hempstead on Saturday, March 28.
Bennetts End community centre was flooded with UV light and live DJs entertained the 13-19 year old clubbers who partied until 11pm.
UV was launched to highlight disabled access in traditional club venues but is aimed at young people with and without disabilities.
It is funded by The Big Lottery's Young Peoples Fund and run in partnership between youth organisation ActOne and Herts County Council.
ActOne's trainee programme, which helps disabled young people work in the arts through specialist training, allows trainees to get involved
behind the scenes.
Artistic director Suzie Birchwood said: "The options available to disabled young people to access further education and training are very limited.
"The Trainee Programme works with the individual to enable them to achieve their full potential."
