Choir entertains the Queen

A school choir had the honour of performing for HM the Queen and Prince Phillip.

Thomas Coram Middle School in Berkhamsted, were recently invited by Coram Children's Charity to take part in its 270th year anniversary celebrations in London.

Rob Halls, Deputy Headteacher at Thomas Coram, said: "It was an honour and a pleasure to be invited to such an event. It was a very exciting day for our school choir who rose admirably to the occasion with a confident and heart-felt performance."

After introductions, the youngsters who represented the Berkhamsted school, treated the Royal couple to a rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus.

They sang together with the Thomas Coram Childen's Centre, The Foundling Choir and the EC4 Choir.

String quartet Escala - who made the final of Britain's Got Talent last year - also performed along side the youngsters.

Coram is one of the country's oldest charities which supports the needs of vulnerable children and young people.

The charity was founded by Captain Thomas Coram who, after returning from many years at sea, was appalled by the plight and neglect of children left to die on the streets.

In 1739, Captain Coram established the Foundling Hospital which over the years became home to more than 27,000 children.

The Royal engagement, which took place on Friday, was held at Brunswick Square where the Foundling museum is based.
