Chicken sheds have to stay put

A plan to replace former chicken sheds at Hilltop Farm, Kings Langley, with office buildings, has been refused by Three Rivers District Council.

Overall design of the proposed new buildings with increased height would give a more substantial and urbanised appearance to the site than it has now, and have a detrimental impact on the open, rural character of the Green Belt, says the council in its reasons for refusal.

Members of Abbots Langley Parish Council had expressed concern about business use in a Chilterns Landscape area, considering it to be an inaccessible and unsustainable countryside location with inadequate bus service, a long distance from other public transport.

Walking and cycling would be impractical and unsafe. There were no shops, post box or other facilities nearby, councillors pointed out.
