'Best ever year' says coach
A swimmingcoach said it is the best year in his club's history after they achieved distinction at the County Junior team championship.
Berkhamsted Sports Centre Swimming Club took four squads to the Daplyn Trophy on Saturday.
The older girls team of Sophie Smith, Julia Niedertubessing-Lopez, Ellen Price, Emma Barnes and Yazi Brand equalled last year's best-ever performance of eighth place, while Katie Shaw captained the younger girls' squad, including Jennifer Atwill, Katie Brown, Hannah Coulson and Aisha Cooper.
The older Boys team suffered from a late withdrawal which meant Ben Rochford , Luke Holden, Tom Strakosch and Hamish MacCaig had the handicap of no points in one of the individual races as each swimmer could only swim one individual race.
But they managed to finish just one place lower than last year.
Ollie Hurst captained the junior boys alongside Kieran Elliff, Byron Chapman, Jordan Northwood and Jonny Warr.
Hurst improved his previous time in the first fly-length claiming the county qualifying time at the event.
MacCaig also came close to equalling his best time.
In backstroke Coulson and Barnes improved their personal bests whilst youngest swimmer Jonny Warr and tallest Tom Strakosch, who came third in his heat, competed for the boys.
For the final batch of individual races, Atwill, who had never been inside 38 seconds before, finished the night having done it three times.
Similarly, Price had never been quicker than 33 seconds and slowly wound up the pace of her heat to 32.93 seconds.
Head coach Geoff Wood said: "The teams can be very pleased with all their efforts, crowning the best year in the club's history."
