A vicar who has been at the helm of Berkhamsted town centre’s St Peter’s Church will be heading for pastures new after serving the parish for eight years.

Father Michael Bowie will be leaving on Sunday, February 23 to become an assistant priest at London-based All Saints Church, which is near Hyde Park.

He announced the news today in an email to his parishioners.

He said although he usually has a firm rule not to return to parishes after he has moved on, he will be returning to Berkhamsted each year for the Graham Greene Festival in September.

He described his new London church as ‘a wonderful church with a particular gift for offering excellent worship in the tradition which made me a Christian’.

He promised that he will continue to pray for the St Peter’s parish and its new vicar. He said: “The best farewell you can give to me is the promise of warm and welcoming support for that priest in leading you.”
