Berkhamsted board game hits the shops
The Berkhamsted board game has been unleashed with one thousand copies now on sale in local shops.
After months of development the quirky game, which is an A2 sized, flat version of the town, was launched at the Berkhamsted and District Chamber of Commerce (BDCC) annual meeting last Wednesday (April 9).
To win players must collect cards from 10 points around the town and need to have strong strategy skills, money-management, a good knowledge of the area and a bit of luck.
The fun game also serves to promote Berkhamsted and its attractions such as the castle and Grand Union Canal.
Local businesses were able to advertise on the board and companies supporting the project include: Eastwoods butchers, Cook's Delight and Birtchnells.
Costing 24.99, BDCC has produced 1,000 copies which are available to buy in Hamlins, Athomedot.com and Capital Gardens (Woods Garden Centre).
It can also be bought through the BDCC and through its partner in this project, Rosewood Publishing.
Ron Cowie, chairman of the BDCC, said: "The Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to be able to fund the development of the Berkhamsted version of this game. It promotes the attractiveness of this pleasant market town and publicises the diversity of its businesses, which is the object of the Chamber of Commerce."
The game was produced by Rosewood Publishing and adapted for Berkhamsted under licence from Market Town Games of Stony Stratford.
Project manager for the game, David Guest, said: "BDCC deserves huge credit for funding this initiative. I hope that people will enjoy the game and that it contributes to their enjoyment of the town."
