Bargains galore will be on offer at the Oxfam Children’s wear event and charity stalwart Nicky Evans is hoping to smash her fundraising record.

She dreams of hitting a £10,000 target by flogging good quality clothing and children’s toys at Berkhamsted’s Civic Centre on Friday, September 7 from 9am to 11.30am.

The volunteer holds two sales a year, which see people queuing outside in a bid to be the first to snap up the knocked-down goodies.

Nicky said: “We are aiming high - this will be sale number 36 – and being a winter sale we should be able to make fairly decent amounts.”

The retired grandmother founded the sale in 1993 when she raised £297 by selling six rails of donated clothing.

She has since been presented an MBE by the Queen for her dedication to charity and works tirelessly to get the thousands items of donated goods washed and ironed in preparation for the sales.

She said: “In a world of rapidly rising food prices in the wake of the US drought and a weak pound, Oxfam’s work among malnourished children and adults is more urgent and expensive than ever.”
