Art auction will help dogs

Animal lover Elizabeth Land, who has two rescue dogs of her own, is holding a silent auction to raise cash for a local dog centre.

The Tring shop owner will auction artwork at Picture Box during the town's Traditional Christmas Festival at the end of the month.

Ten per cent from sales will go to the Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Ashley Green, Chesham.

The charity, which takes in dogs from around the country and places them in new homes, is especially close to Mrs Land's heart because she has given a home to two dogs from the centre in recent years.

She said: "I started off helping out there as a dog walker and ended up with two dogs of my own."

Mrs Land first fostered Jed, a 12-year-old black and white collie, during the Christmas period two years ago and decided she wanted to keep him.

And last Christmas Beau, a one-year-old whippet cross dog joined the happy family.

More than 50 art lots, from limited editions to prints, will be up for auction on Friday, November 30, during the festival which runs from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

The highest bidders will be contacted the next day.

Mrs Land also sells charity Christmas cards to raise many for the rescue society.
