A charitable harvest is boon for DENS foodbank
Pupils from Bovingdon Primary Academy with Reverend Charles Burch and the food for DENS
Children swapped fruit and vegetables for tins, tea and dried goods for charity as part of their annual harvest festival.
On Friday pupils from Bovingdon Primary Academy walked to the village’s St Lawrence Church from the school for the annual Harvest Festival Service.
They carried with them non-perishable goods such as pasta, tinned soup and toiletries instead of the traditional autumn items of vegetables and fruit.
These were sent to the Dacorum Foodbank run by DENS, the local charity that supports homeless people in and around Dacorum.
The church service was led by Reverend Charles Burch and included harvest songs performed by the Keystage 1 and 2 choirs.
Also read out during the service were poems written by Year 5 pupils and illustrated prayers created by Year 1 students.
Headteacher Martin Mangan said: “It is very important to us, as a school, to be an active part of our local community.
“That is why we appreciate coming to St Lawrence Church for this special service and being able to support the DENS charity.”
