A bike for Jake
Villagers hope a bike abandoned in a Bovingdon churchyard may be a gift from God for a member of their congregation.
Nobody has come forward to claim a mountain bike that was left in the grounds of Bovingdon Baptist Church.
Members of the congregation now hope it can be sold and put towards a fund for wheelchair-bound parishioner Jake Morris, 12.
The youngster has cerebral palsey and is saving for an adapted cycle that would enable him to join his family on bike outings - his condition prevents him from riding a normal bicycle.
Church minister, Rev Mary Moody, said: "The bike was found abandoned this week outside our church and as the owner hasn't come forward we would like to sell it in aid of Jake's special bicycle fund."
A police spokesman confirmed that if the bike was not collected within 28 days, the church could claim it.
Jake's mum Loraine, dad Andy, and seven year old brother, Sam, are fundraising for the bike - which has a 5,600 price tag.
The family, of Pembridge Road, even organised a 12-mile sponsored cycle ride earlier this month (June).
