Lesson of Faustus offered to schools
Lesson of Faustus offered to schools
THE NEW production of Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus will be on at Watford Palace Theatre, on January 28 and 29, before touring to other venues and schools around the county.
As part of the theatre's partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, George Perrin directs the production, which aims to give young people an opportunity to experience professional theatre.
The story is based on the legend of Faustus - a man who sells his soul to the Devil for knowledge and power.
It is a play that has been produced countless times both on stage and in film, with actors from Richard Burton to Jude Law taking on the title role.
Faustus is the ultimate tragic hero torn between gaining infinite fame and fortune or repenting before it is too late.
The universal themes within Doctor Faustus have allowed the play to survive and relate to every society since it was first performed in 1592.
It has been an established presence in school curriculums both for literary and dramatic study which makes it the perfect play to provide both entertainment and education.
As well as having two performances at the Palace Theatre the production will be available for schools to book a performance, from February 1 to March 5.
Although it will appeal to schools in particular, this production is an ideal opportunity for everyone to see this classic work performed and directed by a talented creative team.
Tickets are available from the box office on 01923 225 671 or at www.watfordpalacetheatre.co.uk
