Joglaresa’s music mood is medieval

editorial image

A programme of seasonal music with a difference will be served up at Berkhamsted Civic Centre next Saturday, December 1.

Medieval and folk carols make up the programme played by Joglaresa, an ensemble now into its second decade and boasting talents drawn from very diverse backgrounds.

How many British/Israeli/Irish/Arabic groups can there be on the circuit?

Joglaresa are directed by Belinda Sykes, who also sings and plays the bagpipes, and she is joined by Sianed Jones (voice and fiddle), Jean Kelly (voice and harp), Ruth Fraser (voice and harp), and Tim Garside who sings as well as playing percussion and the dulcimer.

Their light-hearted show, starting at 7.30pm, is the latest presentation in the current Berkhamsted Music season and the final offering for 2012.

It’s been created to conjure up echoes of winter pagan festivities, with re-workings of well-known carols as well as other songs such as Robert Burns’ Cauld Blaws The Wind and the traditional Welsh carol Ar Gyfer Heddiw’r Bore.

Tickets for the Blow Northern Wynd evening will be available on the door, with adults paying £13 but under 18s getting in free
