Fazan Ahmed, 16, died two days after being hit by a blue Ford Focus in Jupiter Drive, Hemel Hempstead, on August 22 last year.

The driver responsible was Andrew John Lane, 21, of Stoney Close, Northchurch, and he was sentenced to nine months in prison today (Wednesday, August 26) after being found guilty of causing death by careless driving.

In the wake of the conviction, Fazan’s mother Izzy Begum and father Mukhtar Ahmed said: “This year has been the hardest year of our lives coming to terms with the loss of Fazan.

“Fazan was the life and soul of the family; his charm and charisma brought everyone together.

“Without him here there is a gaping irreplaceable hole left in all of our lives.

“For us, life will never be the same again.

“No sentence that Andrew Lane serves will ease this lifelong pain of living without our beautiful boy.”
