Herts Police do criminal records checks faster than almost anywhere else in the country

Criminal records checks in Hertfordshire are now among the fastest in the country.

In Herts the average turnaround time is three days – almost as fast as the 1.8 days by Norfolk Police, and almost six months faster than London Metropolitan Police who take an average of 109.3 working days.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children.

People applying for jobs as midwives and teachers are among those who need to complete DBS checks.

A Herts Police spokesman said: “On the whole, in Hertfordshire, the vast majority of requests are currently dealt with within one to two days. Typically these are where there is nothing to disclose or little or no information relevant to the application.

“We place a high importance on safeguarding members of the public, and ensuring adequate resources are in place to respond to requests in a timely manner.”
