The Box Moor Trust has introduced a new horned member to its herd of cattle... and he’s a bit of a stud.
A new Belted Galloway bull by the name of Crystal Concorde has just touched down in the area to replace former stud Phoenix, who has served his time in the field.
Born and bred in Cumbria, the four-year-old bull was working as a stud in Oxfordshire but will be running with the Box Moor cows from next winter, with his first calves expected in autumn 2015.
The Trust brings in a new bull every few years, as the offspring of the previous bull start maturing and coming into the herd.
The Trust manages 480 acres of agricultural and amenity land for the benefit of Hemel Hempstead and Bovingdon.
Its mission is to manage the estate in an “environmentally sensitive” manner for recreation, biodiversity, the provision of diverse opportunities for life-long learning and to ensure such initiatives are accessible to all.
