It only takes a moment for a healthcare professional to introduce themselves to a patient, yet often this simple act can be forgotten.

West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust is supporting the national ‘Hello, My Name Is...’ campaign, aimed at helping to improve the hospital experience for patients.

The campaign, which started on Twitter, has inspired nurses, doctors, therapists, receptionists, porters, domestics and other staff.

The #hellomynameis campaign was created by Kate Granger, a doctor from Yorkshire who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Kate became frustrated with the number of staff who failed to introduce themselves to her during her time in hospital. She started the campaign to remind staff to go back to the basics and introduce themselves to patients properly, to improve patient experience.

Since the campaign launched in March, staff at the trust’s hospital sites have been getting getting involved with a selfie campaign as a reminder to introduce themselves to patients, visitors and colleagues.
