A history enthusiast has called for ‘parking spaces’ next to Berkhamsted Castle to be reserved for its visitors during certain hours of the day.
John Waller, 69, of the town’s Cobb Road, says it would stop the area being hogged by commuters using Berkhamsted railway station, which is nearby.
He said: “It’s disgusting. We want the spaces to be for people who want to visit Berkhamsted, not get away from it.”
Herts County Council said the ‘spaces’ are actually not spaces at all, but are in fact part of the public highway – and therefore the yellow line parking restriction still applies.
Spokesman Gemma McKelvey said: “It would be up to Dacorum Borough Council to enforce where there are issues with people not adhering to any parking restrictions.”
