Wigginton Women's Institute

August is usually a quiet time in the women's institute year when many members are away on holiday.

However this was not the case at our last meeting when we had a very good turnout – even welcoming our youngest attendee – 2 month old Eleanor Poynton who came with Mum, Charissa, to hear Dr Sandy Primrose, from the Foods Standards Agency, talk about 'Food Fraud - Do we really know what we are eating?'

Dr Primrose who with the aid of slides gave a very good presentation alerting us to the lengths dishonest people will go to adulterate or fraudulently substitute ingredients into food items in order to make money.

The Agency works hard to detect and prosecute perpetrators of these dishonest practices. It really was quite a scary and thought provoking talk and kept our members chatting about the subject long after Dr Primrose had finished his presentation
