Sun shines on Aldbury May Fair

A record number of revellers turned out for the popular Aldbury May Fair during Bank Holiday Monday.

The annual village event raises money for local charities and organisations including Aldbury Primary School, which will use the cash to pay for new computers.

Throughout the day the village buzzed with activity and the highlight was the crowning of May queen Maisy Plater, aged 10.

Each year the youngest pupil at Aldbury Primary School randomly picks a girl from Year Six to be crowned during a special ceremony at the fair.

Linda Kirkland from Friends of Aldbury School, which co-ordinates the event, said: "We think it was a record turn out and I'm sure the weather helped.

"There was a fantastic community spirit this year because there were so many organisations and charities that took part."

A team of around 20 organised the event and planning started back in January. Mrs Kirkland said: "The team were fantastic."
