Your Festival Comments

From David: I'd just like to say that I really enjoyed the day at the Redbourn festival, Yes, it was a little shambolic and yes, they didn't have a running order for when the bands were on but personally I think that added to the charm.

Karen Kucper wrote in an email: "We had a brilliant day out at

the festival. Many thanks to Paul at Fester Management for the complimentary tickets. We were one of the closest homes

to the depot and the festival has been the highlight of the last 20 months for us. For myself, Dirty Pretty Things were just incredible but for my partner Barry and daughter Milly, I'd get shot if I didn't give Feeder the mention they so definitely deserve."

Amanda Broome, of Malus Close in Hemel Hempstead, wrote in an email: "I went and what a day. I queued for an hour to get in, behind me people were passing out. We were then told we could not take in our fold up chairs as the owner had changed his mind. We were told we could not enter and the chairs would have to be left outside and hopefully they would be there when we came out (surprise surprise they were not!) We were then told we could not take our picnic in! At which time I completed blew my top and went mad, people further up the queue had taken their picnics in. Eventually he let us slip our picnics in, but to be honest we were totally mad at that point! We got in, sat down and to our surprise saw people with their chairs. They had not been told that chairs were not allowed. We were not allowed to take a car unless buying a family ticket which was ridiculous! They were even taking peoples suncream off them at the gate and throwing them in the bin! We could not believe it.There was absolutely no organisation we had not idea which acts were on where. Some of the acts had to be cut short, making them mad. One act was swearing from the stage about being cut short which was understandable, but not very family friendly. We left at about 9.45pm after missing Sandie Thom as she was on the other stage and nobody knew. I had telephoned the bus company the day before to see if we could get the bus home and were told this was fine. Got to the queue and were told there were not enough buses for the number of people so we could not net on! Eventually they let us on the bus though. Good points - police, toilets and first aid. Don't think we will bother again.

Karen wrote in an email: "I spent most of the festival in the VIP area, so I am largely unaware of the problems many festival goers seemed to have encountered. I only ventured out into the main arena to watch Dirty Pretty Things, as this was the reason I went and for me, they did not disappoint. I heard The Automatic say that their set had been cut short and I really cannot blame them for being annoyed - any artist would be. I was lucky enough to speak to Dirty Pretty Things backstage, who were as lovely as ever and they seemed to have enjoyed themselves on stage. It was nice to hear them dedicate a song to Tony Wilson - a rare "good guy" in the industry who went far too soon. RIP Tony. All in all, I had a great experience backstage and it's a shame that many festival goers encountered such problems. Perhaps the organisers will learn from this."

Overview of festival by email from Sarah:

An excellent day out - because of the weather and the friends we were with.

Excellent toilets - because there was hardly anyone there to use them.

Exellent food - the pork roast was great!

Excellent first aid - because the st johns out numbered the public

Excellent performances from all the artists I saw

Not excellent.....

Gates opening late

Bands starting late

No programmes or therefore running times so no-one knew what time anything was happening and therefore missed stuff. an annoucment to let us know the ordinary boys had swapped stages for example would have been helpfull.

Missing the ordinary boys

Bar running out of everything - which made us grateful that there wasn't 35,000 people - at least we got some drinks!

The Automatic being forced to play for only 15 minutes - they were annoyed quite rightly- if organisers knew bands were running an hour late at the start then the first few bands on should have been cut short to allow the last 3 or 4 to have a decent time slot - after all we paid the ticket money too see these bands and not the earlier ones.

Ticket Price's - we paid 45 to see foo fighters in hyde park - a quality day with top bands (motorhead, queens etc) many people I spoke to did not go to redbourn because of the price.

coach choas trying to get home - no queuing system, no signs telling us which bus was going where - complete chaos and crush trying to get on the coach and not at all family safe.

As I said excellent day out - had it been raining it may have been a different story.
