Red kites latest

FRESH sightings of red kites in the Hemel area have been received.

Reports of sighting of the birds were first reported on Hemeltoday earlier this year.

Update August: Further to your article on Red Kites, I have been seeing Red Kites over Potten End and Berkhamsted Common by Gravel path for around the last year. I see one every so often whilst driving and a few times from my garden by the village school. I have seen a pair of the birds together on just a couple of occasions. I have also had sightings of a Common Buzzard, again a few times over Potten End, but pretty much guaranteed sightings along the Leighton Buzzard Road near Studham.

Thanks very much for publishing this item.

Update May:

Trevor Francis from Hemel emailed us to say: "I saw the article on the website, and yes I have seen a Red Kite flying around the Bourne End services on the A41 bypass the other day when I was on my way home from work.

"I have seen them a lot in the M40 corridor around Chinner, Watlington and of course around Christmas Common which I believe is the area they were first introduced.

"They do make an impressive site wheeling around in the sky and do seem to be appearing over the towns and villages a lot more. Mainly because of food being more avalible as people tend to leave scraps out for them. The type of food left out may not be the best type for these birds."
