Kings Langley Evening Women's Institute May 28
At our May meeting we were pleased to hear that our member Jean Grainger has had two of her photographs selected for inclusion in the 2009 WI Calendar.
On the 23rd several of us will be taken to a Luton Hoo tea-party. Having been closed for some time it was good to hear that this lovely building is to have a new lease of life.
Members heard a report from the spring council meeting held in the Alban Arena.
Bushey Museum has invited us for June 26 and is full of interesting artifacts and original paintings.
The main aspect for King's Langley WI, however, was the debate and vote on this year's resolutions: 1. This meeting asks HM Government to urge the EU to ban bottom trawling which causes catastrophic loss of marine life. 2. In view of the adverse effect on families of the imprisonment of people with severe mental health problems, this meeting urges HM Government to provide treatment and therapy in a more appropriate and secure residential environment. Result - 'in favour'.
The name of the lucky winner of a bursary to our college was drawn.
Wine and cheese sustained us during the evening which ended on a high note when the drama group entertained with two comedy sketches.
The next meeting will be held on June 10, at the Community Centre at 7.30pm.
Ladies of all ages are welcome. Enquiries to Linda Brady on 01442 831763 or Rene Gardner on 01923 264754.
