Hemel Hempstead Local History and Museum Society June 11

It is the intention of the Hemel Hempstead Local History and Museum Society to involve as many young people as possible in the society's Through the Eyes of Youth project.

Last year four sixth form pupils from Hemel Hempstead School visited the society with an excellent presentation on Sparta.

Then in April this year, the members of our society were invited to a most enjoyable evening at Hemel Hempstead School.

Three sixth form students, Toby Podmore, Andrew Mawer and Yu-Fan Zhao under the direction of their history teacher, Mr Chapello, presented their views on The Bayeaux Tapestry Revealed.

Mr Chapello is to be congratulated on such a fine performance by his pupils.

Following these events, the society is now hoping to make Through the Eyes of Youth an annual occasion.

At our May meeting the chairman, Elizabeth Buteux, reported that the members had enjoyed a most pleasant visit to Hemel Hempstead School for the society's Through the Eyes of Youth project presentation on The Bayeaux Tapestry Revealed.

The chairman was then pleased to introduce Mike Stanyon, a vice president of the society, who gave a most interesting illustrated talk on Sir John Evans - A Remarkable Hertfordshire Resident.

Until Mike's research on Sir John Evans very little appears to have been known about him.

David Stevens, the vice chairman, then expressed the appreciation of the society to Mike Stanyon for such an informative talk.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, June 25, when Graham Laurie will be giving an illustrated talk on Roald Dahl's War - The Career of the Writer who Enchanted Millions.

All meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 8pm at the Carey Baptist Church Hall, Marlowes.

New members and visitors welcome. Extra parking available at the Civic Centre.
