Dacorum twinning celebrated at Euro party
Watch a video of a two-day party hosted by Dacorum's German twin town to celebrate Europe.
Neu-Isenburg welcomed 180 foreign visitors to its Europe Festival at the weekend, an event staged to celebrate the town's links with neighbouring countries.
Locals turned out to join in the fun as the festival, held on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, buzzed with live music and stalls showcased produce from across Europe.
Visitors from France, Austria, Italy and Romania were encouraged to show-off their local performers and festival revellers were treated to traditional music and dance.
Guests were also introduced to local art and enjoyed historic tours of the town.
Festival organisers were disappointed that Dacorum did not send an official representative to the festival, for which a council spokesman blamed 'practical and financial difficulties'.
The Gazette editorial team represented the borough and reporter Louisa Felton signed the ledger to historically record the festival, alongside mayors from other countries.
Neu-Isenburg is a city with a population of about 35,000 in south Hesse, 8km to the south of Frankfurt.
It was twinned with Dacorum in 1975 and is also officially twinned with Veauche and Andrzieux-Bouthon in France, Bad Vslau in Austria and Weida in Germany.
