A pet store is holding a discounted microchipping event this weekend to help owners protect their pets from being lost or stolen.
Pets at Home on London Road, Apsley, is offering a special rate of just £10 for the procedure, which usually costs £15 and lessens the likelihood of permanently losing pet cats and dogs.
New government rules state all dogs in England must be microchipped by 2016, or owners will face fines for non-compliance. In Wales, the deadline is 2015.
Store manager Gerry McDermott said: “With microchipping, if your cat or dog is lost or stolen, there is a better chance you will avoid any heartache and be re-united with your beloved pet.
“The 2016 government law is getting closer and closer and we’re here to help our customers ensure they meet the deadline by offering the simple, relatively painless procedure for a reduced rate.”
At Pets at Home, when a chip is implanted, every pet is given a unique code number, which is then stored along with the owner’s contact details on the UK’s largest registration database.
The offer is available throughout this Saturday and Sunday.
