A pensioner whose home was ransacked by thieves is offering a reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprits.

Widower John Rayner, 82, had taken his daughter out to dinner in London’s West End on the evening his Bennetts End home was targeted for the burglary –and returned to find the glass of his patio door had been removed and his personal items strewn on the floor.

John, who lives alone in Kindsercout, says it was upsetting to see his late wife’s possessions tampered with, as they had not been disturbed since her death more than 20 years ago. Though it was clear the crooks had been intent on finding jewellery, they were unable to find any and instead made off with John’s 42-inch widescreen TV – his main source of evening enjoyment.

Since the attack on February 22, John has placed posters offering a monetary reward for the burglars’ conviction in shop windows, and urges anyone approached to buy the stolen TV to think twice. He said: “I am reasonably fit and emotionally strong, but it was very upsetting. I want to see them caught and paying for their actions – and anyone who buys stolen goods is just as guilty.” Call police on 101 with information.
