Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning is pictured welcoming members of the Dacorum University of the Third Age (U3A) to the Houses of Parliament – and he’s happy to organise trips for other groups from the constituency as well

He led the visitors from the U3A Out With Friends group on a tour which included Westminster Hall, the Queen’s robing room, the House of Lords, the central lobby, the House of Commons and the famous terrace.

Afterwards he said: “It was an honour to be able to show the U3A group around the Palace of Westminster. I am lucky enough to have been working in Parliament for about 20 years and have learned a lot about the building during that time.

“I am more than happy to show people round. The most usual time is a Thursday evening. If anyone is interested in visiting, please contact my office. If there is sufficient interest we will organise a coach.”

U3A Dacorum was set up in 1991 and now has about 1,300 members who are usually retired or semi-retired and aged from mid-50s upwards.

U3A is organised as a large number of subject groups and members can take part in as many as they like.
