A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care
Are you flexible, adaptable and happy to work on your own initiative?
The Rennie Grove Children’s Support Team needs a volunteer who can help organise a cupboard full of materials and equipment for them to use in their day to day work.
The right volunteer will be able to set up a system to record equipment use and will keep a check on supplies and re-order them as needed.
Key tasks will include keeping the toys clean and in good working order and ensuring that all equipment is accounted for. You should be well organised and methodical and have good computer skills.
This home grown charity also needs help from an IT whizz.
This administration volunteer role involves setting up spreadsheets, keeping in touch with customers and a range of general administrative tasks.
You should have strong skills in using Microsoft Office products and good attention to detail. Both roles are based at Rennie House in Icknield Way, Tring and will require around two days initially and about two hours per fortnight after that.
HMP THE MOUNT
Special volunteers are needed to help out in the visitor centre at HMP The Mount in Bovingdon.
Visitors often have long and difficult journeys and children especially can be tired and upset by the time they reach The Mount.
Centre volunteers offer a friendly face, a cup of tea, a bite to eat and a listening ear to visitors before they go over to the prison.
The centre is open on Friday afternoons and has sessions both morning and afternoon at weekends.
You would need to be over 21, have good social skills and an interest in people of all ages and backgrounds. Basic food hygiene training is available and travel expenses offered.
The recruitment process can take a long time so volunteers are asked for at least a one year commitment.
DROP IN AND STAY IN TOUCH WITH THE GAZETTE
The Volunteer Centre in Marlowes is now the town centre contact point for hand-delivered items of news for the Gazette, which has now moved out of its town centre offices
New chief executive Richard Pitts is pictured at the Roundhouse, with the Gazette’s new postbox in the background.
