A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
Could you spare a couple of hours to collect for this year’s Poppy Appeal? Most collections are between 9am and 5pm although some supermarkets may need volunteers up until 8pm. Usually volunteers donate two hours of their time each shift, or more if they wish, working with others at supermarkets, railway stations and town centre locations. This year collections will be from Sunday, October 27 to Sunday, November 10. You need to be at least 16 to take part.
Mencap SNAP playschemes provide play opportunities for children and young people aged four 19 with a learning disability, and individuals with a friendly, hardworking and patient nature who willing to gain new skills and have a passion to get involved are needed. You can play and get messy while contributing to an organisation which aims to provide exceptional play opportunities for children and young adults. Hours are flexible and training is provided. Playschemes are run every Easter, summer, Christmas and during half term holidays as well as on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Volunteers are welcomed from age 14 years upwards.
The 1066 Club, which has blind and partially sighted members in Berkhamsted, is looking for a treasurer. Duties involve collecting subs at monthly meetings, banking, paying bills and preparing simple annual accounts for auditing. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with some financial skills. Also needed is a club secretary to help the chairman with correspondence, minute taking and other duties.
Urban Access provides a free counselling service for local young people aged 11 to 25. It provides reliable and significant support for youngsters when they need it most.
If you like working with people, are good at networking and staff management, could you be the next chair of trustees?
You would need to have a commitment to the needs of young people and be able to work with other trustees to lead and support the manager, the counselling coordinator and the team of counsellors.
