A charity for the elderly is appealing for Christmas presents to help those who may be spending the festive season alone.
Age UK Dacorum is asking for gifts to be donated for older people at the charity’s Christmas parties which, for many of them, may be the only gift they receive.
The charity’s Melanie Clarke said: “The last few years have been more difficult for us to get in the presents, but the kind-hearted people of Dacorum have still contributed.
“Suitable gift ideas would be wind-up torches, chocolates, biscuits, toiletries or boxes of tissues, such as you might give to a grandparent.”
The presents do not need to cost more than a couple of pounds and should be kept unwrapped, so that donations can be grouped and equivalent gifts are given to each guest.
More expensive items can also be donated for use as raffle prizes at the parties.
Presents can be dropped off at the Hemel Hempstead office in Half Moon Yard in Hemel Hempstead High Street or at the Volunteer Centre in Marlowes.
Age UK Dacorum is also holding a Halloween party on Thursday, October 31 to raise funds for a Hemel Hempstead dementia support club. Call 01442 259049 for details.
