A big thank you to the pupils of Hemel Hempstead’s Cavendish School for supporting the work of Volunteer Centre Dacorum.

As part of the borough’s annual Dragon’s Apprentice Challenge, they turned £100 into £1,376.46 with support from Lesley Crisp, their business Dragon from Dacorum Borough Council.

The team raised more than £1,000 by running a popular charity gift wrap service at the Riverside Shopping Centre during November and December.

They topped this off with a non-uniform day and tested our wits at a charity quiz night at school to bring in the rest of the money.

Richard Pitts, the centre’s chief executive, said: “We were really pleased to be part of this challenge. It’s been a great experience working with such dedicated and talented young people.

“We really appreciate the money they have raised for our charity and are so grateful for all the time, effort and enthusiasm they put into it.”

The centre has been helping other good causes for over 40 years and supports more than 470 other local groups to find the volunteers they need to keep vital services running.

During the last decade we have helped more than 10,700 people of all ages, abilities and walks of life to become volunteers. We also need a volunteer to help in the reception area on Friday mornings. If you have good IT and customer service skills, this could be the role for you.

If you would like to find out how you can support your Volunteer Centre, why not visit the office in The Roundhouse, Marlowes in the heart of Hemel Hempstead town centre.

You could find out about the different ways you could volunteer at the centre in the future or you might be interested in one of the other 300 opportunities on offer.

Even if you don’t have the time to volunteer you can still help.

Why not join the Volunteer Centre team for their first ever fundraising curry banquet night at award winning restaurant Sitar in Boxmoor on Tuesday, April 8?

You can get full details about booking a place from the centre.
