The Wendover Arm Trust (WAT) held its second Restoration Open Day of the year on Sunday at St Mary’s Church, Drayton Beauchamp.

Hundreds of people attended and six conducted tours of the current restoration site were arranged during the day.

Visitors were able to see volunteers working on the restoration and gain an insight into the methods involved, while paddle boarders displayed their expertise on the restored section opened last April.

Display boards were on show outside the church, with volunteers answering questions. The trust had one of its best days ever for recruiting new members and the tea tent had completely sold out of cakes by the end of theday.

A new box trailer, sponsored by the Chiltern Branch of the Inland Waterways Association, was handed over to WAT chairman Chris Sargeant by branch representative John Brice, to help with transporting equipment to fairs and events throughout the year.

The trust is currently restoring a further one-mile stretch of canal to join up with the restoration completed at Little Tring in 2005. See www.wendoverarmtrust.co.uk
