Sharp shop helps tenants keep their independence

A supported housing scheme has found a simple way to help tenants maintain independence.

As the residents of Evelyn Sharp House, in Field Road, Adeyfield, can’t get to the shops, the shop has been bought to them!

The not-for-profit shop has been set up with help from Dacorum Borough Council’s supported housing officer. It is run by tenants and carers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. It helps independence because tenants don’t have to wait for others to bring items like soap or toothpaste. All the goods have been donated and profits go to the social fund.

Sandra Mogan, the council’s lead officer, supported housing, said: “It’s a valuable resource that puts them in control, because they’re running it for themselves.”
