Last chance to have your say on high speed rail
CAMPAIGNERS are urgently asking people to have their say on a new high-speed rail link before it’s too late.
Friday marks the end of public consultation on the proposed High Speed 2 (HS2) rail line that could cut through the Chilterns.
Groups opposed to the development are urging people to speak out against the £32 billion plans, which include the possibility of a new line cutting through Dacorum with a viaduct between Pendley and Aldbury Nowers.
Chief officer of the Chilterns Conservation Board Steve Rodrick said: “In a time of austerity it is incredible the government is even thinking of spending so much money on a railway when there are so many more pressing and urgent economic and environmental issues to resolve.
“A message needs to be sent that we do not share their belief that spending £32 billion in order to knock off a few minutes on a railway journey to Birmingham or Manchester by 2033 is going heal the north-south divide.
“It is absolutely essential that everyone who feels strongly about HS2 responds to the public consultation by July 29.
“This may be the only time that the government actually asks for our views.
“We must send a clear message that the high speed railway makes no economic or environmental sense.”
