‘Commuter parking still a problem,’ says Gauke

THE MP of a town that could be reshaped by parking permits says he hopes they will stop commuters congesting residential streets.
David Gauke, who represents Berkhamsted and other towns in his South West Herts constituency, says the residents-only scheme could solve this problem.
Berkhamsted Town Council proposed the idea, where residents would pay at least £25 a year for a parking space outside their homes.
The Gazette reported last week that many neighbours are against the plan, as they think it will make it harder for them to park.
But Mr Gauke said: “I think in some places it is necessary to have residents-only parking permits – in particular roads and at particular times of the day.
“There is a long-standing issue with commuters parking in particular streets.
“One can see why there is a need to do something about that – impose residents-only parking for one hour of the day, maybe.
“But you have to look at it on a street-by-street basis to make sure you do not just disperse problem parking into neighbouring streets.”

Come on, think about it. If everyone could pay just £25 to park their can outside their home - (a) where will all the 2nd(3rd) cars go; (b) both sides of a narrow road?; (c) £25 + £100+ for vehicle licence; (d) just think of all the public highways that will not need repairs as vehicles will be permanently stationary and not actually going anywhere and finally, why are there so many empty garages around? PS what do you have to do to avoid having the time to put the kettle on for a cup of tea while you wait for all the external advertising pages to load?
