Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is one of the best places to work in the NHS, according to a new poll of the health service across the UK.

It was included in the Top 120 list, which was compiled by the Health Service Journal and the Nursing Times in partnership with NHS Employers.

The Trust is the only NHS organisation in Hertfordshire featured in the rankings, which looked at over 1,000 NHS employers. Data was categorised into seven core areas: leadership and planning; corporate culture and communication; role satisfaction; work environment; relationship with supervisor; training, development and resources; and employee engagement and satisfaction.

David Law, chief executive of the trust, said: “I’m proud to work for an organisation that puts its staff and patients at the heart of everything it does.

“Our doctors, nurses, other health professionals and support staff are our greatest asset.

“This ranking shows that we are on the right path, but there is no room for complacency and we will continue to work hard to make sure our staff are engaged, valued and have the tools they need to look after the patients we care for every day of the year.”

His colleague Alison Shelley, director of HR and organisational development, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. The Trust offers a huge amount of support to our staff and has developed different ways to engage with them. After all, the Trust is its staff.

“Leadership programmes for people at all levels of the organisation, development and career opportunities, as well a very real drive to give our staff a voice in how the organisation is run, are just some of the many benefits offered by the Trust.”

The list included 40 hospitals, 31 mental health trusts, 16 specialist trusts, 20 clinical commissioning groups and 11 community trusts including Hertfordshire.
