Gadebridge’s Sahara restaurant will go through to a regional final after being crowned best South Asian eatery in Hemel Hempstead by town MP Mike Penning.
As part of the annual Tiffin Cup event, Mr Penning awarded second place to Cochin in the Old Town and highly commended Infinity in Waterhouse Street and The Pavillion in Markyate.
The curry contest is an annual charity event organised by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament known as the Tiffin Club.
The Hemel Hempstead nomination was chosen by local poll with entries received by post and via the MP’s website.
Mike Penning presented banners to all four restaurants and said: “I congratulate Sahara and the runners-up and thank everyone who took the time to nominate their favourite restaurant. We’ve had a great response and I very much hope that Sahara will do well in the regional and national rounds.
“This is a great way to support local businesses. We are lucky to have so many fantastic restaurants in Dacorum.”
Last week Mr Penning also visited businesses Mechanix Direct in Apsley and Vertex Solutions International’s headquarters in Paradise. He congratulated both companies on their successes.
He said: “It’s great to see Hemel-based businesses doing so well.”
