On April 29, students from South Hill Primary School and Boxmoor Primary School visited The Hemel Hempstead School for a visit from the bestselling author and library campaigner Alan Gibbons.

Mr Gibbons gave a lively and entertaining presentation, regaling pupils with stories of his schooldays and his early working life as a teacher.

He then ran creative writing workshops in the school library.

School librarian Ellen Krajewski said: “The two primary schools thoroughly enjoyed the first workshop as Alan guided them through the creation of their own stories.

“He later worked with Year 9 and 10 students, who were joined by a group of students from John F. Kennedy School.

“The students were encouraged to expand their skills, becoming more descriptive and more imaginative as Alan stretched and improved their writing.”
