LEAKY roads in Hemel Hempstead are becoming a headache for water- conscious residents.
Pools of water have become a permanent feature on Pancake Lane since pipes began leaking into the road at the end of January.

Tony Fox, who lives opposite the source of the leak, said: "It's frustrating to see water wasted every day.

"You hear appeals on the TV pleading with people to save water by just having three-minute showers.

"But quite honestly, the whole of Leverstock Green could have showered for a year with what's been wasted here."

Mr Fox has reported the leak to the water board, but says repairs have not been attempted at the site for six weeks.

Three Valleys Water claim Pancake Lane will have to be closed for the repairs and that liaising with Herts Highways is the cause for delay.

A spokesman said: "Three Valleys Water apologises for any inconvenience caused to customers.

"The leak is on a pipe that connects the water main through the street to customers' stop taps.

"As soon as the road closure is authorised, the repair will be carried out as priority."

They added that this could take up to 10 weeks.
