Unreliable bus route in spotlight

A local councillor has slammed an unreliable bus service, which is the only transport link for residents of a semi-rural area between Hemel Hempstead and Watford, as unacceptable.
Passengers have complained that Arriva's number 6 bus sometimes runs late and even sometimes fails to arrive, according to Cllr Geoff Emery.

Now he is due to propose a motion to Abbots Langley Parish Council's planning and highways committee toni
ght (Wednesday) to have the matter taken to the Traffic Commissioners.

"This has been going on for about 10 years and people have got fed up with it. I think the situation is intolerable and I am trying to get something done about it," said Cllr Emery.

Three Rivers District Council and Hertfordshire County Council do not control what the bus company does and advised an approach to the Traffic Commissioners as a 'last desperate move' to help passengers.

They are backing Cllr Emery, who represents Bedmond, one of the areas affected.

The half-hour service is especially important for people with hospital appointments to keep, said Cllr Emery.

"Sometimes we get an improvement, a flash flood, but then it slips back again," he claimed.

Cllr Emery said approaches to the bus company had received 'stock replies' that cited roadworks, congestion and drivers not turning up for work as reasons for the problems.
