Town to be twinned in honour of war hero

Kings Langley is taking the first steps towards twinning with the French town where a village war hero earned the Victoria Cross.
Stretcher bearer Christopher Cox received the honour for saving the lives of many of his comrades near Achiet-le-Grand, France, in March 1917.
Parish councillors have now decided to invite representatives from the town to switch on the Kings Langley Christmas Lights in November.
At a meeting of the council on Tuesday, October 7, members agreed to
ask Achiet-le-Grand resident Phillipe Drouin, Vice President of the
Somme Remembrance Association, if he or the town's mayor would like to perform the honour.
It will be the first step taken towards formally twinning the two places since they began to build a relationship in 2006.
Cox single handedly rescued four men at Achiet-le-Grand despite the exploding shells around him and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery by King George V at Buckingham Palace in July 1917.
Memorial plaques in Mr Cox's name have been placed both in Kings
Langley and in a location near where the VC medal was earned in France.
