Six thousand bins remain unemptied in Dacorum following last week's two-day strike.
Three quarters of the bins that were neglected because of the strike have been dealt with but it will be next week before the remaining green bins are emptied.

Meanwhile it has emerged Dacorum Borough Council's CCTV control room was unmanned overn
ight during the strike days.

Between midnight and 6am on Wednesday and 10pm on Thursday to 6am on Friday no one was monitoring the more than 50 cameras that cover Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring.

In a statement the council said: "All cameras were still recording throughout the whole strike period and when the CCTV control room was not staffed due to industrial action, the cameras were pointed to the widest view possible.

"The control room was fully staffed at all other times. The police were made aware of the situation."

The strike by public sector workers' union Unison was part of a row over pay.

Around 60 members marched through the centre of Hemel Hempstead and demonstrated outside the civic centre.

Rubbish collections, the council's call centre, schools and welfare visits at sheltered homes were among the services hit.

The union, which put in a claim for a six per cent rise, has rejected a pay offer of 2.45 per cent.

Anyone with a grey bin that has not been emptied should contact the council on 01442 867858.
