As more power cuts plunged Hemel Hempstead residents into darkness this week, one school girl has decided she has had enough.

Kerrie Backhouse, 11, is among hundreds of Nash Mills and Apsley Lock residents who have been plagued with power cuts while energy giants EDF tackle major faults on the network.

Emergency generators intended to serve the affected streets have been
consistently tampered with, cutting the supply to homes and businesses throughout December and January.

Kerrie, of Teal Way, said: "In these power cuts when the generator isn't on me and my brother and sisters all have to stay at other people's houses because if we stay at home it will be cold and dark.

"My dogs, pet fish and lizards have to freeze too and its unfair on all of us.

"The house gets freezing and I have lots of layers on. I hope we don't have a power cut again this week because my school uniform won't be washed."

More than 100 families in roads off Belswains Lane were left in the dark again on Saturday (January 26).

Some streets in the Nash Mills and Apsley area have suffered as many as five black outs in the last six weeks.

On Monday, a spokesman for EDF apologised to customers and claimed the works affecting the area were expected to be completed and the generators removed this week.
