Jumpin Jaks has closed its doors to revellers and it is not known whether the popular drinking spot will reopen.

The LeisureWorld venue was shut down in the early hours of New Year's Day, however, it is not clear what the future holds for the site.

Karl Johnson, a spokesman for Luminar, said: "There are no imminent plans for Jumpin Jaks. It will go through a business review and a decision as to what happens to it will be made later in the year."

He said the move was a 'business decision' because the venue, which opened around eight years ago, was not as successful as others run by the firm.

"It is not that it wasn't deemed to be making money but was it as successful as some of our other brands in our portfolio? Maybe not," he said.

Staff working at the bar have been transferred to other venues under Luminar.

Rumours that neighbouring nightclubs Lava and Ignite face a similar fate were denied by Mr Johnson. He said: "Lava Ignite was refurbished not so long ago and will continue to trade as usual."

Last year Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning claimed the LeisureWorld complex would have to be rebuilt within the next five years. But owners of the site Capital and Regional and leisure providers Luminar denied the building had a limited life span.
