One in eight cars are left unlocked and others have flash gear on show, a police survey found.
According to Herts Police, vehicles across Dacorum are left unsecured and satnav systems, handbags and laptops are left in view.

The startling lack of crime prevention was identified by neighbourhood officers on the beat in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring.

Neighbourhood Inspector for Dacorum, Peter Edwards, said: "The most effective measure is to remove all items of value from the car on arrival.

"We would also ask motorists to take a few seconds to check their vehicles are locked and secured when they are left unattended."

Meanwhile, badges were ripped off a Mercedes, a Porsche and a Honda in Hemel Hempstead between May 11 and 13.

Inspector Edwards said drivers should try to park in areas covered by street lights or CCTV to deter criminals.

Anyone with information about car crime in the borough is asked to call police on 0845 3300222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
