ERIC Woodward, the centenarian agony uncle for lads' mag FHM, has celebrated his 101st birthday.
Mr Woodward has been giving advice to readers of the magazine since last August on topics from careers to relationships.

Now as well as a media career he is celebrating reaching the grand old age of 101.

Although Mr Woodward's home is in Flamstead, a stroke has meant a move into St Matthew's care home in Redbourn, where staff laid on a party.

"I have nothing but cards all over the place," he said.
"I've got tins of biscuits and chocolates."

Mr Woodward likes his work as an agony uncle but says there are some topics he does not touch.

"I get asked things which I don't agree to do, like getting round the law," he said.

However, because of the stroke he has had to scale back his work with FHM.

And although the care home is comfortable, Mr Woodward is still hoping to return home when his strength returns.

"It's a very nice place," he said.

"I am hoping when I develop enough strength to be walking unaided, then I hope to go home.

"But I'm not in a hurry to leave this place because it's really excellent."

Mr Woodward's key to a long life is simply healthy living.

"I have been an athlete. I did a lot of running," he said.

"I have been inclined to avoid alcohol. I used to smoke but I gave it up 60 years ago.

"I have tried to live a healthy life.

"Generally I was not inclined to do the things that people do that eventually make them not so well."
