Every couple who married in Dacorum last year was already living together.
All 588 marriages registered in 2007 in the borough show the same address for both bride and bridegroom on the marriage certificate.

Registration manager at The Bury in Hemel Hempstead, Hilary Sheppard, said: "Virtually every couple getting marri
ed now is living together.

"This is true of those getting married in the Anglican church, the Roman Catholic church, in the register office or in an outside venue like a hotel."

On a typical summer Saturday there are about a dozen weddings booked with Dacorum registrars. Half of those are now held in outside venues including hotels while the rest will be at The Bury.

Mrs Sheppard added: "A couple giving different addresses would look quite odd now and would really stand out from all the others."

St Mary's team Rector, Rev Sue Allen, agreed this is now the situation but said the church welcomes couples living together.

She said: "The vast majority of couples coming to us to get married are living together and it is only a very small minority who are not. But living together is certainly not a bar on getting married in our churches in Hemel Hempstead."
