Euro MP arrested

An MEP for the Eastern region is under investigation by police accused of obtaining money by deception.
Tom Wise, who constituency office is in Leighton Buzzard, has been arrested on suspicion of making a false instrument, obtaining money by deception by transfer, and converting criminal property.
He has been released on police bail until October 29.
Mr Wise was elected in 2004 as a UKIP representative for the Eastern region, which includes Hertfordshire, but the party withdrew the whip from him in 2007 and he now sits as an independent.
A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested. It's an ongoing investigation."
