A boater who drowned near his Apsley Lock home has been named.
The body of Andrew Hopton, also known by his middle name Mark, was pulled from the marina on Dickinson Quay on Saturday, August 23.

The 54 year old was pronounced dead at the scene at around 1.30pm.

Mr Hopton, an engineering supervisor, lived on a canal boat and neighbours say he 'kept himself to himself'.

The coroner's office gave his cause of death as fresh water immersion and police are not treating it as suspicious.

An inquest opened on Friday and was adjourned to a date to be decided.
